Creative Aging is the only organization in the Mid-South that brings the arts to older adults where they live or gather. To do that, we hire professional musicians and other artists to perform and teach in nursing homes, retirement communities, senior centers and daycare facilities. Since 2005, Creative Aging has presented over 5,500 performances in more than 60 different communities, touching the lives of 30,000+ seniors. In the process, we have paid more than $900,000 in performance fees to local artists.
Arts-related programs like the ones we present have a significant and measurable impact on seniors’ cognitive, emotional and physical well-being. Older adults who participate in arts programs report a higher overall rating of physical health, fewer doctor visits, less medication use, fewer instances of falls, and fewer other health problems than those who do not participate.
This is a fabulous short video produced by Aroha Philanthropies about the importance of art in the lives of seniors.
